Sunshine, blue skies, calm seas - picture perfect for the annual Dive 2000 Underwater Treasure Hunt. With over $4,000 in prizes this year's spud hunt was possibly the best ever!
Spuds were strategically placed by one of our Dive Masters, David Young and staff member, Mark Taylor (who also doubled as our Chef for the day)
48 keen divers in search of prize winning spuds, launched themselves from Inscription Point at Kurnell's Botany Bay. Once they descended past 4 meters the ocean kicked out to a stunning 15 meters visibility.
Kathy and Peter Cave were very excited when they found 2 ghost pipefish only meters away from our Exit Line.
Also, Jane Lucas found a beautiful yellow sea horse and many Sea Dragons were encountered during the dive.
As there were only 10 prize winning spuds, each had a valuable prize rather than numerous spuds with prizes of small value - more worth the winning! As usual, not all of the spuds were found but the one not found this year just happened to hold the major prize of Mike Ball's 3 day Dive Holiday. The excitement mounted as all Club Members diving today were now in the draw with an equal chance to win. Steven Hulme's name was the lucky one drawn!
Every year since our first Spud Hunt in 2000, Mick and Lyn from MV Ocean Trek in Jervis Bay sponsor our Club Member "Special Draw" which gives all Club Members diving with us that day another chance to win a prize (even if they have found a spud). Anna O'Grady was overjoyed when her name was drawn as she had only joined the club 2 months ago and had now won this fabulous weekend dive holiday and also an Apollo SV Mask & snorkel, provided by Dive 2000 for the winning spud she found.
After the dive for treasured spuds, Club Members, family and friends enjoyed tender BBQ Scotch Fillet Steak rolls cooked to perfection by Mark.
