It was another great turnout at the Mosman Club for the final guest speaker evening of 2008 with plenty of new faces as well as regulars in the crowd.
After the obligatory awful joke by MC Dave Young, our first speaker was local diver Alan Saben who showed us some of his images from more than 25 years of diving in both South Africa and Australia.
We then had a real treat for the main course with renowned marine scientist David Harasti giving us an entertaining and educational presentation on Seahorses and their conservation. Dave really knows his stuff as he is currently doing his PhD on this very topic in one of our favourite places – Port Stephens.

In addition to the great info on seahorses, Dave also let us into some of his secret spots in the Nelson Bay / Port Stephens area and some of the exceptional critters that he is finding there.
Editor’s Note: To back this up, check out a recent anglerfish Dave has located in Nelson Bay. http://www.diveoz.com.au/discussion_forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=19655
As always, there ws keen interest in the prize draws for the night with the lucky winners being Michael Burnett (Nelson Bay dive weekend holiday) and Ilowna Dansco (Apollo mask & snorkel).
We also welcomed some new VIP Club Members with Liz Brodie plus Peter & Kathy Cave being awarded this special honor.
Finally, a dedicated group of Dive 2000 divers gave part of their Sunday in September to participate in World Cleanup Day at Balmoral Beach. Congratulations to all who received their certificates on the night and to Liz for great organisation of the cleanup event.
