On the 8-9 Nov 2008, a group of Dive 2000 instructors, DMs & friends decided to stay dry and head for the hills for a 4WDing and camping getaway. Present were;
Dave & Janie – Prado (Green Leader)
David & Charlotte – Prado (Just Married)
Scott, Sharon & Coral – Jeep (Dodgy 1)
Peter & Kathy – Prado (Very Dirty)
Rich & Monika – Jeep (Dodgy 2)

Starting at Katoomba our little convoy with its CB radios tuned to channel 27 made its way to Jenolan Caves and onto Kanangra Walls for morning tea. It was from there that the real 4wding began and the virgins of the group were initiated with a crossing of the Kowmung River just before lunch. As each vehicle came across the river it was hard to wipe the smiles off the face of the drivers.
The afternoon saw us in the Abercrombie River Nat Park south of Oberon with some really tough tracks including loose rocks, steep low range required climbs and of course MUD. Everyone did well and was amazed at how the vehicles handled the conditions. Finally we made camp at a great site next to the Retreat River after a big day of driving. The fire was ablaze, beer cold, the roast dinners done in the camp ovens smelled and tasted delicious.
Sunday was fine and clear, so after brekky we toured some more of the spectacular Abercrombie NP before heading back into the Blue Mtns NP for a BBQ lunch. Peter discovered you need to add water to your radiator, and Janie did well dodging the kangaroos.

The last stop of the day was at Wombeyan Caves for a look at the main arch before heading along the Wollondilly River road to Mittagong.
A great weekend in the bush and we all agreed to do it again soon.
